How do I make a backup of my recordings?
You will need to first start the playback software. You can do this from the main interface by pressing the log button.
Usually this button looks like a piece of paper with a series of lines or it may be
labeled "View Log". Next you will
want to choose your recorded event that you wish to backup by using the event
calendar and camera chooser in the upper
right of the playback software. Then press the button that is labeled "Save Video" or it may look like a floppy disk
with ".avi" across it. You will then need to choose a location to save to. You may even
choose a channel of audio
to bind to the video if your system supports audio recording.
There is a beeping sound coming from the computer.
This is a safety feature meant to warn that the signal was lost from one or more of your cameras. Simply check to
make sure it is plugged into the PC DVMS, and then also check to make sure the camera has power. This feature can be
disabled in the main configuration panel.
Why am I getting poor performance from my PC DVMS while using other applications?
The PC DVMS is meant to be dedicated to recording video only. You can expect poor performance if you try to us the PC
for other tasks. We will no-longer support a PC that has new software installed on it that is not meant to be used with the DVMS.
How do I set up the PC DVMS for remote viewing?
You can start your remote server of choice, (I recommend the web server for external connections), by pressing the button that looks like
3 computers connected by wire, or it may be labeled "Remote". You will then be presented with a list of servers you can start.
Once you make your choice, you may be present with a setup type window for configuring your server. You may want to write down the port
number set, whether you change it or not. If not presented with a configuration window, you may go in the main configuration panel by pressing
a button that looks like a hamer and screw driver, or it may be labeled "Setup" (You will need to stop all monitoring and stop all network servers
to access the main configuration). Click on the tab labeled "Network.." and set the appropriate settings.
I set up the PC for remote view, but I can not connect from home.
Make sure you have the correct IP and port numbers. When using the web server, all you need to connect is a web browser.
You will need to enter into the address field the address of your PC DVMS which looks like http://IP:port. If your PC DVMS is on a router or you are on a router at home,
you may need to make extra configurations to allow this type of connection.
How can I connect remotely on an internal LAN?
I recommend using the multicast server on the PC DVMS whish you can start by clicking
the button that either looks like 3 computers connected or it is labeled "Remote". Once started you can now install the multicast client on your remote PC.
Once installed, run the multicast program, and it should auto find the video server. If it does not then you may want to double check your settings.
Why does the video look like time lapse video?
Because it is. The frame rate is directly related to the hardware you chose to purchase. Different frame rates are
available, including real-time.
Why is the display frame rate different from the recording frame rate?
This is dependant on the hardware you chose to purchase. In general the display frame rate is usually lower than
the recorded frame rate because the hardware will devote more system recourses to the most important task, recording. The is a
separate device available for purchase that can be used to give a real-time display.
How should I set up the PC DVMS for remote view when using a
satellite internet service?
First of all this is not recommended, but in some cases this is your only option. We
recommend you have a second PC for you to plug the satellite receiver into.
Then you will need to setup a software based proxy on that second PC. Then you will need to set a home IP on the PC DVMS which normally looks like, 192.168.xxx.xxx.
The software proxy will then need to be set to perform port forwarding to the PC DVMS.
I have more questions. What do I do?
Firstly it is recommend you read the manual. If after reading the manual you still need help, you can call us and we will do what we can to answer any short questions.
If your question is more complicated, it may require for us to go on-site to evaluate
the situation which we will charge an hourly rate.
